Providing Generators for Kidney Dialysis Machine in St Martin
Location: Hospital Louis Constant Fleming, in Saint Martin, French West Indies
Other Club Participants: Rotary Club of St Martin Nord, District 7020 and 7610 (This project is part of the Zone 33 Caribbean Twinning Initiative)
Description: With a Major Matching Grant from The Rotary Foundation, ARC is helping provide the funding for a dialysis generator to the Kidney Department at the Hospital
Louis Constant Fleming, in Saint Martin, French West Indies. Hospital L.C. Fleming currently supports 47 dialysis patients by operating from 5 AM to 10 PM each day. The hospital has three dialysis generators now. Patients that travel early in the day or late in the evening may require taxi or ambulance transport that is extremely expensive. Currently, the center does not have capacity to treat emergency patients without taking a regular patient of treatment. Another dialysis generator will allow the hospital to treat visitors and tourists if required. Currently, transient walk in patients may have to fly 240 miles to Guadeloupe Regional Hospital. Project completed in 2009.
