THE 'MAIN EVENT' - WINE TASTING (WITH CHEESE AND CHARCUTERIE TOO)

Twenty different wines will be available for tasting, as well as a selection of fine cheeses and charcuterie, all generously provided by Arrowine & Cheese of Arlington (scroll down for more info on Arrowine). You can order your favorite wines and deli items at a discount, for later pickup at the store.

Selections of wines are determined very shortly before the event, depending upon variety, availability, and the vagaries of customs processing, so we can't say right now exactly what wines will be on hand. However, you can be assured of a varied range of different types, styles, origins, and prices.  Last year's selection, for example, comprised reds, whites, rosés, and bubblies from France, Italy, Austria, U.S., Germany, Argentina and others, whose discounted sale prices ranged from 8.99 to $ 39.99.  There's a great wine for everybody here.

ABOUT ARROWINE & CHEESE

Doug Rosen, Owner, Arrowine (pictured below, serving wine), says:

Arrowine Owner Doug Rosen pouring samples for our guests. We are a “neighborhood” store with a national reputation. We taste between 400 and 600 wines a month to select the best wines and wine values for our customers. We travel to the wineries to hand select what we sell. We carry hard-to-find wines with character and uniqueness that speak of the place that they were grown in. We are about wines that offer “real value.”  We support artisan wine makers, organic agriculture and hand harvesting.

Our dedicated and passionate staff will cater to customers at any level of interest, consulting with you to select the perfect wine to fit your taste, meal, and budget, whether it’s for your book club, wine-tasting club, dinner at home or to cellar for years. We can also special order wines for you. All you have to do is ask.

Our prices are competitive and often the lowest in the country. We negotiate the best price from distributors and pass that savings along to our customers. And our email offerings provide even greater discounts directly to you.   A wine doesn’t have to be expensive; it has to offer real value and taste good.

Our goal at Arrowine is to foster a welcoming environment that encourages people to explore. It’s a place to learn, enjoy, and have fun.  Our products need to offer real value and taste good.  And we work harder than our competition to bring that to you!

HEAVY HORS D'OEUVRES

Need a bit more than a nibble?  Well of course!  In addition to the charcuterie and cheese tasting items offered by Arrowine & Cheese, we expect to supply ample "finger food" through at least three fine Arlington businesses:  AllSpice Cafe & Catering, Mezeh Mediterranean Grill, and Lebanese Taverna, will provide most of the food for the evening (part of it kindly donated).

Planned selections (subject to change) include .....

Our Cause

Why “Wine Helps!”  ?
Wine Helps, now in its second year, is the Arlington Rotary Club’s effort to create a unique, fun event that will help raise funds to meet needs in our community. Each year, we will select a deserving, effective non-profit community service organization which will receive a large portion of the funds we raise. Funds raised beyond our target amount for the “featured charity” also go 100% to support other good causes operated by us or by others, for example our Arlington Rotary Educational Foundation, which provides two different types of scholarships to students graduating from Arlington high schools, incidental funds to bolster Arlington school-related programs (science, athletics), or local organizations like the Arlington Academy of Hope or Arlington Food Assistance Center.
This year, we have chosen Arlington Thrive as our Featured Charity.

What Is Arlington Thrive?

Arlington Thrive’s unique role in Arlington is to provide same-day emergency financial assistance to County residents who experience sudden financial crisis such as temporary unemployment or illness.  For those of limited means, such unpredictable needs can disrupt a family’s well-being.

Arlington thrives when:
  • Its residents meet their basic needs.
  • Neighbors help neighbors in need.
  • We stop homelessness before it begins.
  • Children sleep in their own beds in their own homes.
  • Residents are not forced to decide between seeking medical care and paying the electric bill.
  • Elderly people enjoy a comfortable retirement, rather than the insecurity of not knowing whether they can pay the next month’s rent.

Music

Boaté & Ajluni Duo

The Boaté & Ajluni Duo is a Baltimore-based acoustic jazz duo.

Tim Boaté and Anthony Ajluni have been playing music together since they met in 2012, while attending the University of Maryland. Their friendship is rooted in a shared love of a playing guitar, and a diverse list of music heroes ranging from Django Reinhardt to Wes Montgomery, Paul Simon, Tommy Emmanuel, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and many others. Together, they present a versatile yet distinct sound; crafting beautiful instrumental acoustic renditions ranging from pop classics, to folk, bluegrass, jazz, bossa, gypsy and more.
